Dr. Ronald Jans completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Alberta Hospital in 1970.  He then completed a fellowship in Corneal & External Eye Disease at the Proctor Foundation in Research in Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco Hospital.  As a corneal surgeon, he became involved with the Lions Eye Bank performing corneal transplantation surgery and is co-medical director.

He is a leader and respected refractive surgeon across Canada.  He was the first president of the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (1991-1992) and is still an active member. He has been involved with many clinical research projects involving laser refractive surgery and was a Physician Trainer for the Visx Laser Company from 1998-2000. 

He began laser refractive surgery in 1991 and takes a conservative approach, by ensuring only those patients who are true candidates for the procedure are selected.  He has a complete protocol of testing that is followed and personally sees his patients from the initial consultation to every post-operative visit.  Dr. Jans’ considerable knowledge and skill are used to his patients’ advantage.  His commitment in providing quality eye care in a compassionate, professional environment for restoring better vision is unsurpassed.
