| Complications & Side
Effects of Refractive Surgery
As
with any surgical procedure, complications and side effects are
always a consideration. Some possible complications and side effects
can include irregular astigmatism resulting in a decrease in best
corrected vision, glare, corneal haze, over-or-under correction
(which are directly related to the healing rate of the cornea),
inability to wear contact lenses, loss of cornea cap requiring
corneal graft, corneal scarring, infection and loss of vision.
Some of the side effects are expected, for example light sensitivity
(usually lasting only 1-2 weeks post operatively) or haziness of the
cornea which only lasts a short duration as part of the healing
process. The haziness of the cornea can produce a glare or starburst
effect which is seen around bright light (usually seen at night). As
mentioned above these are more common and expected side effects but
do not occur in all people.
Please feel free to contact us with regards
